What does your doubt look like? What does it feel like? Sound like? Maybe it has a name or voice from your past? If you dissect it, where does it originate and why?
In my experience, most of us have self-doubt to varying degrees. I guess if we get curious about it comes down to fear; fear of failure, rejection, looking stupid, being “found out”.
I recently was listening to an interview of a very successful person who was receiving an incredibly prestigious award. Almost immediately, this winner spoke of self-doubt and wanting to use the award money to just take a breather. The award money would help provide time to build up this person’s health and self- confidence. What? This person had it all! They were a winner! They received $800,000 to do whatever they wanted. They had proved themselves to be brilliant! What more reassurance do they need? Huh… I needed time to think about this… How do you win one of the most prestigious awards in the country and still struggle with self-doubt? Do we all struggle with self- doubt? And, if we do, how do some of us break through the self-doubt and go for it anyway?! What drives some to share their gifts and others to hide? I say it is a mix of courage, generosity and audacity.
